Short winter program in Montpellier

Our short winter program allows students with an interest in the French culture and the desire to perform volunteer work the chance to live with a host family and experience French life first-hand.

French language course

Development of French language skills through interactive on-going communication related to participants' level of competence with highly qualifies teachers.

This program includes a French language course and a Service-Learning project supplemented by lectures on French institutions and culture.

French institutions courses

The winter program is supplemented by an additional course on French Institutions and culture and supervised community service.

The course is taught in French/English, depending on language skills. It deals with the major issues at stake in French society and the way they are met by institutions and associations. It complements students volunteer activities, linking traditional learning and experimentation.

You will be required to submit a report on your community service work and an essay on a specific aspect of your experience in France.

Community service
The social service activities are organized according to the requirements of our partner associations, the requests of the participating students, their abilities and aspirations and after studying their application forms.

Typical partner associations provide services to children, the elderly, and handicapped individuals, including visits, tutoring, arts and recreation, and other activities provided on site.

  • Language level: none
  • Age: minimum 16

You must be in good academic standing in order to apply and applications are welcome from students in all majors.

NOTE: no visa required

The short winter program includes

  • Registration
  • French Institutions course & community service (45 hrs)
  • French language course (45 hrs)
  • Homestay including half board (breakfast & dinner) or residence hotels
  • Excursions and guided visits
  • Orientation and Montpellier city guided tour
  • Administration & insurance coverage

          Housing

          Participants live with host families. Housing arrangements are organized by the staff of the IMLS. Other types of housing are available on request.

          Support services

          On-site support for the program is organized by the IMLS. This includes arranging pick-up upon arrival in Montpellier, host family housing, access to internet services, excursions, supervision of community service activities, and general support. 
          At the start of the program, on-site orientation with presentation of volunteering activities.
