International Partnership For Service Learning and Leadership

International Partnership for Service-Learning and Leadership (USA)

I-PSL is located in Portland (Oregon-USA) and represents a consortium of universities around the world, all with a view to integrating volunteer service with academic study. Volunteering is part of an academic program. It is ongoing throughout the year and students receive credits for the service-learning experience from their home universities.

IMLS represents the I-PSL France program. It is a Service-leaning program and welcomes international students volunteering in the community. In tandem with their French language program, volunteer students may tutor disadvantaged children, help handicapped persons through difficulties in everyday life, participate in recreation activities in children’s hospitals or tutor students in conversation classes.

There are other similar programs round the world: Adelaide (Australia), Chiang Mai (Thailand),Galapagos and Guayaquil (Ecuador),, Glasgow (UK), Kolkata (India), Sienna (Italy), Valladolid (Spain), with a Master’s in Service-Learning at Portland State University (USA), Guadalajara (Mexico) and Kingston (Jamaica), Kolkata (India), Cusco (Peru). A large number of American universities offer Service-Learning as part of their programs. Volunteering students are not academic tourists on a university campus cut off from the rest of the world. They participate actively in the education process as actors and beneficiaries
